Why I am just more productive with Kubuntu

Even if you paid me I suspect I just could not go back to that (very) 'small soft' operating system.

My vista is much wider than that. Here is why: On an average working day on my computer, I have the following open for immediate access:

1. Firefox v2.0 with an average of 30 open tabs to various sites

2. 3 instances of Konqueror. 2 file manager instances and a browser instance with, you guessed it, another 10 or more tabs open not just to web sites (http) I manage but also with FTP connections to servers around the world.

3. 2 Instances of my favourite text editor Kate. One with an average of 6 reference files open, the other in 'root' mode to edit system files as required.

4. My Gaim Instant Messenger quietly sits there awaiting IM calls from people on 9 accounts of 5 different IM networks like Yahoo, ICQ, AIM, MSN and Google Talk.

5. Kontact (the one that gives me the better outlook) gives me instant access to 19,000 messages automatically filtered into 400 folders, my appointments, my ToDo list, my Address book, Notes and my News and RSS subscriptions.

6. My instantly updated KSystemLog tells me everything about the stuff I have going on in the back ground with about 40 custom Cron jobs and automatic message retrieval (and virus/spam checking) from 4 or 5 different e-mail accounts.

7. A Konsole terminal window with an average of 4 or 5 SSH sessions to various (remote) computers I maintain around the place.

8. This while an instance of my all time favourite computer game KPatience sits quietly in the back ground waiting for me to take a break.

9. Sometimes I just have to turn the volume UP on the Amarok music play list I choose for the moment.

10. Finally there is K3b always quietly burning CDs and DVDs for me without complaint.

Then of course I simply start ANY other program I may need at any point if I need to get something done...

Try that with that 'small soft' operating system...

As I said; my vista is much wider than that...
